Research Fellow in epitranscriptomic regulation of RNA processing in cancer
Open from: 29.08.2025
Expiry date: 19.09.2025
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Research Fellow to investigate the epitranscriptomic regulation of RNA processing in cancer. The successful candidate will join the Cancer Genomics and Bioinformatics (CGB) Unit, led by Prof. Matteo Cereda, and will be embedded in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine provides outstanding research opportunities, with access to state-of-the-art technologies and core facilities.
Research Focus
The CGB unit studies the regulation of alternative splicing in cancer, with particular emphasis on the role of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). Our research aims to achieve a comprehensive molecular characterization of RNA processing regulation in both adult and pediatric tumors. To this end, we integrate genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic high-throughput approaches with big data analytics. We leverage both second- and third-generation sequencing technologies to uncover oncogenic RNA processing programs, with the goal of informing personalized therapies and contributing to the development of novel RNA-based cancer treatments.
Role
The Research Fellow will be responsible for studying the epitranscriptional regulation of RNA processing in adult and pediatric cancers. The project will combine molecular biology assays with nextgeneration sequencing (NGS) approaches to investigate dysregulation of RNA processing and identify novel therapeutic targets suitable for RNA-based interventions.
Requirements
• Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related
life sciences).
• Proven experience in molecular and cell biology.
• Prior experience with NGS technologies is highly desirable.
• Track record of research reporting, including oral presentations and contributions to peer-reviewed
publications.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written).
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Commitment to advancing oncological research.
Application
To apply for this position, please submit to matteo.cereda@iigm.it :
• a cover letter in English, describing research experience and motivation;
• CV in English;
• contact information of 2/3 references (for post-doc application only).
Availability
The position is available immediately. The position is offered as a 12-month appointment, with an initial six-month probationary period.
IIGM is a private research institute located within the FPO Candiolo Cancer Research center. The institutional goal is to foster and develop excellence in human genomic research and education, with special reference to genomic variability in multifactorial diseases, as cancer. The institute provides high-level scientific education and access to state-of-the-art research facilities (e.g. Illumina, Oxford
Nanopore sequencers). Further information on the CGB laboratory are available at:
