“IIGM and the Territory: Collaboration with the Margherita Children’s Hospital in Turin and the Publication of the First Results of the NeoGen Project”
We are pleased to share the publication in JAMA Network Open of the article “A Genomic Sequencing Approach to Newborn Mass Screening and Its Opportunities.”
The article presents the first results of the NeoGen study, an innovative research project born from the collaboration between the IIGM Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine and the Regina Margherita Children’s Hospital of Turin, supported by the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and the Fondazione Maria Teresa Lavazza – Ente Filantropico.
The aim of NeoGen was to explore how newborn exome sequencing could expand and improve traditional newborn screening programs, offering new opportunities for prevention and for the health of children and their families.
The study, conducted on a very large number of newborns (more than 4,000), supports the use of genomic sequencing as a screening method.
As the IIGM Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, we are committed to supporting excellent scientific research with a strong impact on both people and the local community.
A sincere thank you to Professor Franca Fagioli, the team at the Regina Margherita Children’s Hospital and everyone involved in achieving this important milestone.
