The Statistical Inference and Biological Modeling lab @IIGM, headed by Andrea Pagnani, is seeking a highly motivated early-stage researcher with a strong background in mathematics/physics. The Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine (IIGM, www.iigm.it), is located at the FPO IRCCS Candiolo Cancer Institute, (Turin), Italy (www.research.fpoircc.it). The main goal of IIGM is to foster and develop excellence in translational medicine, immunology, genomic research, and education, with a strong focus on cancer. The institute provides high-level scientific education and access to state-of-the-art research facilities. The core activity of the Statistical Inference and Computational Biology unit is the development of statistical mechanics-inspired computational techniques for the analysis of experimental datasets and in particular for inference problems in complex biological systems.

Research
We encourage applications from talented scientists, who are interested in gaining experience in a growing multidisciplinary and dynamic research environment that integrates expertise in hard sciences such as physics, mathematics, and quantitative biology in the context of large-scale inference from biological data.

Position
The candidate will learn how to combine a variety of advanced statistical methods and tools specifically tailored to the problem of analyzing large datasets of data from single cells. The candidate will also perform simple wet lab experiments ragarding cell growth and cell transfections of engineered DNA sequences.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Master degree in Mathematics, Physics, or related fields;
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Julia, C, C++);
  • Good communication skills and self-motivation;
  • Fluent in spoken and written English;
  • Cell and/or Molecular biology lab experience is suggested but not mandatory
